Ismail Raage: The Man Who Went Viral On Social Media

A recent ‘disabled’ graduate of SIMAD University, Ismael Raage conquered Somali social media since January 30, 2018 after photos of him crawling upon his knees and receiving his graduation scroll went up and broke the internet.

Ismail’s determination and ‘never lose hope’ spirit moved the hearts of Somalis as a whole and those who have attended his graduation ceremony at SIMAD University’s Main Campus in particular. Nothing is more touching than seeing a proud young man crawling up on his knees and proudly collecting his coveted degree along with his fellow graduates.

Though I have never come into contact with Ismail, I have had the pleasure of seeing him chasing his dreams, like every one of us, at the University when I was doing my undergrad degree at the same university he has graduated from.

Somalis in the social media showed their love and sent words of encouragement to the inspirational hero, Ismail Raage. A popular TV host, Hodan Naleyeh was among thousands who have expressed their feelings and how they were moved by Ismail’s success story.
The day followed his graduation; Brother Ismail Raage was invited and well received by the Minister of Finance of Somalia Dr. Abdirahman Dualeh Deileh at his office in Mogadishu. His meeting with Minister Beileh took the celebration to another level.

Even The Villa Somalia, Somalia’s presidential palace joined the bandwagon and congratulated Mr. Raage for the milestone achieved by him.

Highlights of other popular tweets:
Ismail himself tweeted a photos of him celebrating. He thanked Allah and his parents for what he has achieved so far.
After years of struggling and ignoring naysayers, Ismail has finally achieved his dream of earning a degree in Banking and Finance from one of the most prestigious universities in Somalia, SIMAD University.

Finally, Mr. Raage’s efforts have really been paid off after he is officially employed by the Premier Bank and got full Master’s degree scholarship from H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, former president of Somalia. I wish my brother all the best in his future endeavors!
